Woking Crematorium

Welcome

Welcome

Woking Crematorium in Surrey was the first crematorium in the country, founded in 1878. It was built by the Cremation Society of Great Britain, which was established by Sir Henry Thompson, the personal surgeon to Queen Victoria. When a Mrs Pickersgill was cremated at Woking in 1885, she became the first person in the country to ever be cremated and Woking Crematorium entered the history books.

The team at Woking is immensely proud of its history and we work hard to offer a service that would make Sir Henry proud. We’re totally focussed on the families we work for and make sure we always give a personalised, empathetic service to them. We’re also very proud of our beautiful gardens and memorial options, which include a sympathetically landscaped area of the garden specifically for babies and children.
