Arranging a Cremation

Arranging a Cremation

When you lose a loved one, it can be very difficult and daunting to arrange a funeral, especially if it’s something you’ve not had to do before. If you’ve chosen a cremation, the teams at our crematoria are always on hand to guide you through the process. They’ll help you find a local funeral director if you need assistance and then work with you and the funeral director, to make sure the cremation is exactly what you want it to be.

Here are the key steps to go through:

  • The first step is to select a funeral director who will assist you in making all the arrangements.
  • A medical examiner will establish cause of death and it’s then that you need to register the death at your local registry office.
  • The funeral director will arrange collection of the deceased.
  • You and the funeral director will then speak in depth about what you’d like for the funeral service. This may include type of coffin, music, visual tributes, flowers and ashes.
  • If you require a celebrant or officiant to conduct the service, and don’t already have one in mind, the funeral director will be able to make some recommendations.
  • Chatting with your chosen celebrant or officiant will help them gain an understanding of the deceased and create a more personal funeral service and structure that you desire.
  • We advise visiting the crematorium prior to the service, where one of our team members will show you around, so you can familiarise yourself with the location and get a greater understanding of the day. Your funeral director will help you arrange a visit.
  • On the day of the service, the funeral director will manage everything, following all your instructions. They’ll be with you prior to the service at the crematorium and then welcome the congregation into the chapel.
  • Once the funeral service has taken place, we will perform the cremation and follow your wishes for the ashes.
  • Each of our crematoriums has beautiful gardens of remembrance. If you wish to consider our range of memorials, one of our dedicated memorial advisors will meet with you to discuss your options. They will also assist if you wish to have the ashes placed in the gardens without a memorial.  You can choose to be present when this happens, with or without a memorial.
